They say the best things in life are free. So is that the case with free debt consolidation companies?
No Such Thing as a Free Lunch?
That's true, and free debt consolidation companies are no exception. Usually free debt consolidation companies offer some portion of their service for free. This could be a limited-time offer to entice indebted consumers to choose their debt consolidation services over any others. For example, they might offer a free initial consultation or free credit counseling. And there's certainly nothing wrong with that. It's just a tad misleading. You still have to pay a fee for using free debt consolidation companies, but it's usually less than other debt consolidation companies charge.
You Get What You Pay For
That's not necessarily true in the case of free debt consolidation companies. There are just as many good free debt consolidation companies out there as there are bad ones (free or otherwise). When you're looking for debt consolidation lenders, it's always a good idea to do your homework on them:
- Always make sure they're certified and accredited (and make sure their employees are too)
- Always make sure they have a street address
- Always make sure the fees and any other obligations you may have are completely clear to you
- Always get it in writing
There's nothing wrong with doing a little comparison shopping when it comes to finding a good debt consolidation company.
